Sounds like a fun adventure! We sent you an email, take a look.
Its been my experience that almost nothing prevents rusty manifolds from rusting again. But next time i try, I'm going to soak them in white vinegar for a week or 2 as that will eat the rust out of every pore
A good disk brake conversion with a dual pot master cylinder is at the very top of the list !!! Those brakes were bad even brand new !!! The 240 was a good choice over the issue ridden 170 !!! Think Radiator an cooling too ...
Yes. I have those on the list.
One thing about electronics - ya gotta let out all of the magic smoke for things to work right - sigh
LOL Better now than later!
Could you have traced the rails and sprayed the lizard skin before mounting the firewall?
Yes, I did that on the rest of the car. But, this is more sealed and this is where it matters.
We had one about the same year back in the early 70s had a small six with a manual choke burned oil like nobody’s business a gallon or so every 2-3 weeks it kept going about 60 mph was top speed no power brakes so watch out for panic stopping they like to end up a little sideways in the lane
Thanks for the heads up!
I’ll never understand why people think a vehicle looks better lowered.
This vehicle looks like it is a skateboard and kind of silly if not lowered.
A 289 or 302 engine swap, would have been nice.
Yes, but I like the idea of keeping the original and also there is not a lot of info on these motors so many will enjoy the videos.
It's also worth pointing out most gen 3 truck blocks the 4.8/5.3 is one block, the 6.0 is a different block. A 4.8 5.3 can't be bored out to a 4 inch bore to be a 6.0 since the 6.0 and 5.3 are the same crankshaft. There is some stupid rare 4.8 5.3 6.0 blocks that are typically 99-00 blocks that can be bored out to a 6.0 but they are wicked rare. Where I live you can pull a 5.3 out of the junkyard yourself for a little less than 400 but the 6.0s are just hoarded by the vultures and flipped on fb marketplace for about 2k. I went to the yard at opening for 2 weeks trying to find me a new 6.0 for my truck and they would always be picked by the time I found a car that had it. I got lucky and found out my old 6.0 seized up due to rods and the mains had survived so I'm building it into a 408 stroker. For those who do buy a 6.0 gen 3 motor. a quick tip on how to make some cheap power out of it is to buy a set of 706 or 862 heads from the junkyard which are readily available, the smaller chamber will bump the compression up a nice bit and make power. I took the liberty of porting mine as well cause I got mine for 60 bucks and if I ruin them oh well I'll go get another set and try again and get better at it.
Love it!
This will be sweet.
Can't wait to follow this adventure ! Cheers from France, I own a 65 econoline 😉
Awesome! What a cool vehicle.
I am from Indonesia,have a good day ♥️
Excellent!
your old school Craftsman & newer Harbor Freight is exactly what I have. but nobody but you has that elementry school ruler. Always makes me smile when you break that out you gonna bother taking it to a dyno Jim? the power to weight ratio is crazy on your car
Someone suggested I put it in a plexiglass case when showing the car. LOL No dyno. It is about 450HP based on engine mods.
Amazing! I love the creativity! Awesome!
Awesome video Jim! Outstanding!!!
most excellent! sunburst orange!
Cool
This is awesome. 😎💥
YAY WE'RE READY 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Big job. Shit happens. Welcome to working on cars boys. How many times have we looked down on the table after we think were done with the job and see a bolt? I'm a physicist and I still do it.
Love the dedication and commitment to excellence on this project my man and enjoyed checking in on the process. FANTASTIC summary video here and love the beats!! Fire up THE VAN! I'll be watching.
It's coming in 3...2....1
A lot of man hours turned out beautiful great job jim !
Thanks for all the suggestions!
Huge, huge, HUGE kudos to you Jim for taking on this project.... Not many people have the will, stamina, or talent to build a car, essentially from scratch.... Man, after watching this time-lapse, I'm surprised that Factory 55 doesn't make you smelt your own metals or lay your own fiberglass! No offense to F55, but gheezh that is a LOT of fabrication for a kit car...I guess that's why they call them kit cars. This is certainly no LEGO set; what an undertaking. Did you know what you were getting into? Only once you see it all done in 30min. of fast-forward video do you start to grasp the true scope of a project like this. Not to mention the additional effort of making a video diary for every step of the process... All this while running your own business in the background. I would think these type of kit cars are usually for retirees with lots of extra time on their hands! Glad to have been a (small) part of it... The end result came out great- hope you enjoy it for years to come!
Thanks. There is truth to waiting until you are retired and have the time. I knew it would be a big undertaking, but it was a little more than expected....
🙌
I’m worn out just watching all this.
🤯
So I dont remember exactly when I subscribed and started following along but I am pretty sure it was end of 2020 sometime in 2021 super cool to see it all done. Thanks for the build that is awesome.
Thanks!
Always be a purist - a Ford car should always have a Ford engine (no exceptions)
What size radiator cap you use. I have a 302
Murray 7616
For almost 5 years now I've been looking for these mythical 319 sought out heads 😂
Hi Jim. I contacted you a while ago to ask you your paint color which you shared with me. I’m having a problem with static electricity when painting. Did your painter do anything to eliminate the problem?
We did not have that issue. But the type of booth we were in was like a swamp cooler. Water on floor and water on input filters to keep the temp & dust down.
I ordered a Monster Trans when I did my 41 Chev pickup resto mod. There were three stripped bolts on the pan, and they said they would send some more trans fluid, that took 6 weeks. Aa for the stripped bolts They told me to just fix it. So I had to buy and install some heli coils. I will never deal with them again. I also had the same run around with the people I talked to on the phone. Ron USCG RET
Back to question on headliner. How did your guy attach that to the roof? Did they glue it up or some other method? Ron USCG RET
Glue
@@StreetRodJim Thank you
Yours is the only one I have seen with all the panels installed. Talking specifically about the engine panels. great job Mr. Jim
Hey everybody, there’s a much easier way to do it than this. After you get the shifter out, you take the ball on the end of the cable and pull it all the way towards the front of the car, which will put the transmission into low gear, gives you plenty of slack to actually bring the cable up to be able to hook it in to the ball jointwith the shifter low and you can just put it all back together and also you do not have to take the safety cable out. There’s plenty of slack to move the shifter over to the right. Let’s work smarter, not harder.
I have pinned this to the top of the comments. Thanks for sharing.
Jim, I like your idea to use the 60's mustang weather trim for the windows. Can you share which year mustang specifically you used?
I put a request in. Waiting to hear back.
@@StreetRodJim Appreciate that... thanks
@@StreetRodJim Jim, any chance you heard back about what year window rubber was used?
@@johnsharp8935 Nothing yet
Not getting anywhere but there is a double lip on it. I am sure if you asked a place they would tell you the difference between there years. Maybe there is non across the 60's.
Great Job for sure….. Looks great. Man I’m seriously missing mine right now. Wish I never sold it 😢
Thanks! Get ready for the next project.....
From day one to now, thank you for the incredible journey!
Absolutely. Much appreciated.
Did you add a break controller?
I did not have one for a while. Then when I got the big 24ft trailer I got this. ua-cam.com/video/u0-68k3lPog/v-deo.htmlsi=ntR5j75HXqolNr0b I would say if your trailer has elec brakes on it, you should have a controller.
@@StreetRodJim perfect! Thanks for sharing!
Looked like a nice easy install !!!
How’s that working for you? I replaced my grommet at the shifter end then of course maybe a year later the grommet at the transmission rotted out. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me,wasn’t going to let it get me a third time with a worn bent shift cable. So with a lot of patience and $100 that’s one less worry for the next 20 yrs🤞🏻
Jim, congrats on finishing your FF Coupe. Just a beautiful car you’ve built. I’ve watched every episode while I plug along on my own build. I admire your attention to detail, perseverance, and your sense of humor when things didn’t always go according to plan. Well done!
Thanks Joel. I know my humor can be dry. I am glad someone gets it. LOL Good luck on your build.
Hi Jim, you have done a great job, it looks fantastic. your cab head liner, did that come with the kit? Or did you have that done locally? Thank you Ron USCG RET
Thanks. No, that is all custom.
@@StreetRodJim They and you did a great job on that head liner. Ron
With all respect, Congratulations. It’s been a hell of a long ride. I’m glad I was able to help push you in the right direction in the beginning, but you exceeded what I ever did. Go do burnouts for distance.
LOL😮
Just bought an 03 vert in spiral grey. Unseen....really hope im ok
Where did you get the weatherstripping for the door windows that is on the hard top?
Window shop provided them. Off of a 60's mustang.
Sweet 😋.
I am a carshow junkie. I go to shows at least 2 times a month all from spring to fall. I dont own a trailer and just plan on only doing shows that I willing to drive too. I havent had a problem with the shows themselves about judging etc. Your talking about a showboard...there are showboards that you can park on the frame so they dont move or have it made like a flag where its soft.
Sounds fine as red wine taste. Some scratcharoo !
Sitting in a parking lot with a bunch of old folks examining who spent the most money isn’t the best way for your car to be appreciated. Throw that fucker in gear and drive it. Everywhere you go people will freak out……drive it to work……drive it on dates……it’s just a kit car. 100% of it is replaceable or repairable. Jim you and I have spent lots of time on the phone. You know what I think. Just use it.
LOL Tell me how you really feel! U da Man!
Here to bring you the truth. As always.
